To control the handling and processing of a textile bobbin, a digital memory carries binary data to give the operations required. The binary data is coded serially and is transferred in both directions between the bobbin and the data processing unit through two direct contacts. The data transmission between the data processing unit and the bobbin is activated by a pulse batch which starts with a codeword and an address. The memory for the bobbin is located by the data processing unit and supplied with current, and the binary data passed to the bobbin is coded by variations in the supply current level. The externally generated cycle is transferred to the bobbin as a current pulse with a clearly higher negative or positive potential than the binary values for data transfer. The bits read from the bobbin memory, for both binary values, are brought to different current levels and then passed to the data processing unit. After reporting to the control, a memory point can be accessed. After a given number of cycle pulses, a response is generated at the bobbin to confirm data receipt, and a fault is signalled if a receipt is not received. The total of all the contents in the memory for a given address is stored in the bobbin memory. When the bobbin is in the data transfer position, the data store is scanned by the data processing unit for comparison with the preset memory point. The final bits of the signal from the data processing unit to the bobbin, on scanning, are used as a trigger pulse. ADVANTAGE - The reliability of the data exchange at each station is increased, and the contact surface for the data flow is reduced.
