Deslagging equipment, e.g. for pig iron and steel ladles, includes a deslagging machine, having an universally movable motor-driven cantilever arm with a deslagging plate, and a tilting device which receives the melt vessel. The deslagging operation is fully automatically controlled by a computer (14) which performs: (a) vessel tilt angle determination and adjustment in accordance with the melt level at the start of deslagging and opt. tilt angle increased during deslagging; (b) cantilever arm (6) path determination and control during deslagging plate (7) insertion into the tilted vessel (4') based on measurements of (i) the initial position (17') of the deslagging plate upper edge (17) w.r.t a reference point (16) at the start of deslagging (thus detecting any plate shortening by melting during deslagging), (ii) the melt height (18) in the tilted vessel, (iii) the slag layer (11) thickness (12) in the tilted vessel and (iv) the vessel tilt angle (alpha); (c) calculation, using vessel dimensions stored in the computer (14), of the vessel inner wall container, which defines the melt surface to be deslagged, at respective vessel tilt angles and melt heights; and (d) programme control of successive or simultaneous pivot motion and linear retraction motion of the cantilever arm within the calculated inner wall contour above the melt level (19) to transfer the slag into a slag ladle (23). ADVANTAGE - The equipment provides fully automatic deslagging in minimal time.
