ZnO-eugenol cements contain, in addn. to ZnO and MgO, other oxides which combine with ZnO and/or MgO. 2-20% of Ti may be added, the rest being Zn and Mg. The ratio of Mg: Ti is 0.5-15, the rest being Zn, and 3-40% of TiO2 is added, the rest being ZnO and MgO. Prepn. is by mixing and sintering the oxides. USE/ADVANTAGE - The cements have better pressure strength (300% greater than non-reinforced, and 75% greater than reinforced, commercial cements), controllable setting time, and lower water solubility (50% of that of commercial cements). The cements are used in prepn. of a metal alloy which is oxidised in the powdered state (claimed). They are used in dentistry.
