Actuation of bicycle brake - involves cable attached to rotatable sleeve mounted on handlebar

The brake of a bicycle, esp. a mountain bike, is actuated by a rotatable sleeve (4) which is mounted on one end of the handlebar (1). The rotatable sleeve (4) is formed integrally with a disc (5) at its inner end. One end of a cable (2) is attached to this disc by means of a pin. This cable is fitted in a circumferential groove in the disc periphery and its other end is attached to the brake mechanism. Rotating the sleeve (4) causes the cable to be wound further around the disc and consequently apply a force to the braking mechanism. USE - Bicycle brake.
