Agent (A) is prepd. by treating an organic polymer (A'), crosslinked with sulphur or by oxidn., and an aq. soln. of a (poly)sulphide to activate it and produce (A'). The prod. is sepd. from the aq. soln.. Pref. (A') is crosslinked with sulphur or peroxide, and is prodn. waste or recycled material, esp. rubber. Activation is with alkali (poly)sulphide at 60 deg. C -soln. b.pt.. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. used to remove (and opt. recover) heavy metal from organic or aq. solns., esp. aq. solns. contg. 1-1000 ppm of the metal removed. The activation increases capacity for metal removal. Obtd. from waste (e;g. used tyres); is resistant to may corrosive chemicals; is mechanically strong; and enables simultaneous metal sepn. and regeneration. (7pp Dwg.No.0/1)
