In the determination of Pu and/or other alpha emitters present in a flask by analysis of the time spectrum of the emitted neutron radiation using a data processing unit the novelty comprises (i) determining an additional position correlation of two or more emitted neutrons of a fission event occurring in time coincidence; (ii) determining the coincidence rate of two or more fission events during a time frame of variable duration; (iii) determining a multiplet structure of the neutron spectrum of a fission event during a variable time frame; (iv) determining a position-dependent multiplet structure for analysis of the position-dependent element distribution; and (v) determining the neutron dwell time in the measuring system. ADVANTAGE - The process combines time-correlation analysis with location-correlation analysis to allow detection of amts. down to 1mg/ Pu and/or other alpha emitters in 220l flasks with high precision (10%).
