It has been proven that even with a 100 percent cessation in the prodn. of chloroflurocarbon gas such gas will still rise into the stratosphere for another 120 years, disturbing the ozone layer, and, as of now, no natural or technical solution is in sight. Up to the year 2000, it is expected that air traffic, both civil and military, will have doubled, and that from an energy-saving point of view flying heights in the stratosphere should be preferable. It is therefore proposed that ozone producing equipment should be installed in all aircraft, which would be started once the aircraft had entered the stratosphere. The thus produced ozone would be discharged into the stratosphere, and when the aircraft would re-enter the tropopause, the ozone producing equipment would be switched off. USE/ADVANTAGE - To replenish the depleted ozone layer by generating ozone in high-flying aircraft.
