Rigid optical=fibre cable - has strain relief elements of low modular aramid allowing overhead suspension and providing protection against projectiles

The optical waveguide cable, i.e. an aerial cable, includes strain-relief elements made of an aramid and attached outside the cable core. The aramid fibres or windings must be twisted using pitch lengths of uplaid core of at least 250 mm. Shorter pitch lengths of the strain-relief elements can lead to (with cable stretch of up to 2 per cent) permanent layer changes of the strain-relief elements within the cable and thus to irreversible cable stretch exceeding 4 per cent. ADVANTAGE - Allows stretch up to two per cent of cable length and additional cable flexures and bends.
