Vehicle seat which reversibly absorbs body moisture - contains covalently crosslinked copolymers with hydrophilic gps., which can store water reversibly, e.g. polyacrylate-starch copolymer
A seat (I) reversibly absorbs body moisture from the user and then gives it off again into the air, esp. when not in use. (I) contains covalently crosslinked copolymer(s) (II) contg. hydrophilic gps. (X), which store water reversibly. Specifically, (X) are anionic and/or non-ionic gps., pref. with 0-70 mol.% anionic gps.. (AX) w.r.t. monomer units, esp. COO-, COOH, OH, CONH2 or SO3- gps.; degree of crosslinking is 0.5-20 mol.% w.r.t. monomer units; (II) is based on at least 2 different monomers, of which at least one is (meth)acrylic acid, metal salt, ester or amide thereof, or glucose, pref. a copolymer of acrylic acid and 1-63 mol.% other comonomer, esp. with the acid gps. in partly dissociated form; (II) is prepd. directly by reaction of at least 2 different monomers and crosslinker(s), opt. with other additives; or (II) is obtd. from precursor copolymer(s) (III) and opt. other normal additives, pref. by radiation-induced crosslinking or by reaction with a crosslinker; (III) is a linear copolymer, a short- or long-chain branched copolymer, or a graft copolymer (pref. a biopolymer (esp. starch, cellulose, xanthan or a deriv. thereof) grafted with a synthetic polymer), or a block copolymer (homogeneous or non-homogeneous), or an alternating copolymer; (III) is derived only from monomers with not more than one functional gp. which can react with the crosslinker, or from monomer(s) contg. more than one such gp.; (III) is derived only from monomers contg. not above one gp. (X), or from monomer(s) with and without gp(s). (X) (pref. from monomer(s) contg. more than one such gp.; at 50% RH, the dry copolymer (II) absorbs at least twice as much water as dry wool and, when loaded with water, gives off at least twice as much water in a dry atmos. as does wool under the same conditions. USE/ADVANTAGE - Provides a seat of simple and inexpensive construction, esp. a seat with a foam core and a water vapour-permeable covering for use in motor vehicles, etc., with improved ability to dissipate body moisture (compared, e.g. with wool).
