Unwanted mixtures of media in heat exchangers with two or more separate flow channels are detected by continuously passing a medium of known conc. through the feed and return of the heat exchanger for a known time and increasing the conc. after a further defined time. The concn. of the medium at the outlet of the heat exchanger is continuously measured to enable detection of conc. variations and the measurements are evaluated. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for heat exchangers for use in heating systems for liquid, viscous and pasty media. Enables timely detection of leaks in heat exchangers before, during and after operation.
