A stunning device for animals, esp. pigs, to be slaughtered consists of a conveyor (2) for the animals (34) and electrodes which are brought into contact with the animal (34). The electrodes comprise a pair of upper head electrodes (12) and a lower, rising chest electrode (30). When the animal (34) strikes the head electrodes (12), one on either side of the head, an electrical control system brings the chest electrode (30) up onto the chest of the animal (34). USE/ADVANTAGE - The arrangement is used to stun animals, esp. pigs, prior to slaughter and is fully automatic.
