Reactor comprises interconnectable tube(s) with dosing appts. effective against back-pressure and a discharge unit for regulating the pressure in the system. Internal mixer elements are fitted inside the tube(s) and the reaction mixt. can be pulsated. Appts. has opposite pulsators synchronised in pairs and having the same impulse vol. and act on the sections of the tube(s) before and after the static mixer element. USE/ADVANTAGE - Prodn. of 4-nitroaniline (I), methyl mono- and methyl diglycol ether and N,N-dimethylaniline. It reduces the energy consumption and safety hazards and increases the efficiency. In an example, two 8 m long double-mantle tubular reactors with perforated discs as static mixers were connected in series. The total operating vol. was 30 l. In the start-up phase, the reactor was completely filled with NH3 soln. It was supplied continuously with 63.6 l/h 30% aq. NH3 soln. and 8.4 l/h molten 1-chloro-4-nitro-benzene, using high-pressure piston pumps. The reactor temp. was 240 deg.C and 25 deg. in sections. Undamped lengthwise pulses with a frequency of 1.5 Hz were provided by high pressure membrane pumps whilst the system pressure was subjected to 16.0 MPa with the discharge unit. The reaction mixt. was discharged and conventionally worked up. Under stationary operating conditions, the output was 8.8 kg (I)/h
