The multi-sprocket drive mechanism couples the chain from a bicycle pedal sprocket to the rear wheel. It has a series of coaxial toothed rings of different dia. and between which the chain is transferred, to give the desired ratio. A freewheel is provided between the series of rings and the hub. The rings (A -B) slide axially on the hub. Those not in use can be moved so as to leave distances between them less than those (a) at the left and right between the ring in use and between it and adjacent ones. These distances can be reduced to nil. USE/ADVANTAGE - Derailleur-type bicycle gearchange accommodates a larger number of toothed rings.
