A hand-held unit transfers a film of adhesive or coloured material from a carrier tape (T) onto a surface (21). The tape is housed within a hand-held dispenser (1) with an elongated spool (5) that passes around a pin (3). The spool is in contact with a fixed roller (4) and is constrained by guide walls (9, 10). The tip of the dispenser has a guide insert (2) and the tape passes around this and is redirected along a smooth surface (17). The tip is drawn across the surface (R) to transfer the adhesive etc. ADVANTAGE - Improved ease of use by simplified construction.
