The car door etc. lock has a bolt (2) and pawl (3), and a tie-rod (5) to connect the outside handle (4) to the locking mechanism. The tie movement within the lock is limited in a specified position by an end stop (6) and the tie has an expanding section to compensate for excessive force. The expanding section is plastic (7), so as not to recover shape once stretched, and pref. comprises a looped U- or S-shaped material, bent part of the tie rod. If the expanding part consists of two positively joined elements, one is a pot retainer, and theother one a rubber plug which homes into the pot to press firmoy onto the walls.
