The press blanket is composed of one or more woven carriers where the carrier at least at the paper side has a weft system with floating wefts over at least two warps on the paper side. The weft system at the paper side forms a dense and even yarn support surface for the warp lay so that the surface formed by the laid warps at the paper side lies above the highest points of the yarn support surface at all points. Pref. the weft yarn system, at the carrier on the paper side, has floating wefts over at least three warps. The yarn support surface gives an even surface of the warps at the paper side, thrugh its density and evenness. A fibre layer is fitted to the machine side of the blanket structure, and on the paper side a fibre layer is in at least two layers, where the outer layer is of finer fibres, or a higher proportion of finer fibres, than in the lower layer. The laid warps are formed by a temporary weave, where the wefts are removed after the fibre layers have been needle bonded into place.
