The invention relates to a process and device for recording and reproducing digital data blocks, especially for digital video display, on or from individual tracks on a magnetic tape by the helical-scanning method. The object of the invention is to improve the reproduction quality in special functions, e.g. seeking or time loop. The object is attained in that the test symbols needed for error correction in digital display are recorded on the tape in such a way that test symbols which cannot be assessed in these special functions are located at points on the track at which the greatest interference is likely in the special functions, i.e. when the tape is entering or leaving the magnetic head.
