A micro-system laser (10) is formed from hybrid components on a base chip (11). All necessary components such as excitation light source, semiconductor laser material, mirror, resonator configurations and elements specific to application, radiation sensors, measuring systems, control and regulating electronics as well as cooling systems are integrated. A monolithic laser crystal (14), focussing optics (13) and a pump laser diode (12) are mounted on the chip. The diode is of semiconductor material and the solid state laser material is of doped crystal or glass. Part of the radiation from the crystal reaches a monitor (15) for a radiation detector and a regulating electronic circuit (17). ADVANTAGE - Can be miniaturised. Optimum adaptation to application by easy variation of componenets. High flexibility in range of applications.
