A crushed feed contg. wheat and/or maize and toasted soya beans is in the form of pressed pieces comprising a fermented mixt. of the components. The compsn. may contain corn gluten and/or corn germ grist, comminuted manioc root, crushed sunflower seeds, whey powder, meat and/or bone meal, CaCO3, vitamins and/or aminoacids, a leaf-structure silicate, esp. NaAl silicate or MgAl silicate (in amt. of 5wt.%). Wheat and maize form at least 50wt.% of the mixt.. The components present as grains, the soya beans and the sunflower seeds are crushed, the mixt. is formed into a dough with water, the dough is briefly fermented at above 100 deg.C, the fermented dough is converted to pressed pieces in an extruder, and the pieces are dried. Doughing and fermentation are in a heatable mixer. USE/ADVANTAGE - The feed is esp. for carrier pigeons (claimed). The feed is more digestible and more completely utilised. In an example, a feed mixt. contained 47% of wheat, 9% of soya beans, 8% of maize, 6% of corn gluten, 5% of corn germ grist, 5% of manioc, 4% of sunflower seeds, 4% of whey powder, 4% of NaAl silicate, 4% of CaCO3, and 4% of meat and bone meal.
