The main station (BS) and mobile stations (MS) communicate by transmission of call signs (K), which their receivers (EBS, EMS) acknowledge after comparison with the contents of memories (SPBS,SPMS) to initiate conversation over another free channel. The mobile telephones can converse among themselves, using the main station as a relay, whose controller (STBS) assigns two appropriate channels. The duplex channel spacing is changed for this purpose from 45 MHz to an integral multiple of 25 kHz at the main station only.
