Biological removal of heavy metals from water - using crushed white cabbage slurry acidified with acid to pH 6

Domestic and industrial waters are biologically treated to remove heavy metals e.g. Cd, Pb, Cu, using crushed white cabbage as hydrophilic plant from the class of angiosperms. A slurry is formed of pieces larger than 3mm and is preconditioned by a soln. of strong acid with a pH of about 6 to dissolve out ions. The cabbage can be used fresh or in dried form, as powder. ADVANTAGE - Cheap treatment process.
