Calculation of the output signal (A) is achieved by multiplicative evaluation or weighting of the input signals (Ex) with control parameters (Px) by means of four quandrant mulitplication and final summation. This enables the control appts. to deliver a signal that corresponds to the freely selectable main receiving direction of a microphone and continuously alterable bunching degree. This occurs when the control appts. is fed with the necessary set of input signals (Ex) from real or simulated microphones, the spatial direction characteristics of which are orthogonal to one another. An arbitrary number of control appts. is formed into a unit with the same number of output channels. The number of output channels is independent on the number of input channels, all of which lead to the control appts. ADVANTAGE - Copes with virtual directional characteristics of complete units of orthogonal components including higher than first order.
