The speed of the rotating disc is increased when the scanning head (A) is transferred from one track to another. The speed is not reduced to the appropriate value until the target position on the target track is reached under given tolerances. The speed of the disc is pref. varied in proportion to the speed at which the scanning head crosses the tracks. The speed of the disc is raised when the speed of the scanning head crossing the tracks reaches a threshold value, and the speed of the disc is reduced when a lower threshold value is reached by the scanning head.
