Measuring edge angle of liquid drops on specimen with smooth or structured surface - by moving reflection surface section along boundary between drop and material and evaluating beam geometry
The method is for measuring the edge angle (1) of liquid drops (2) on a material specimen (3) with a smooth or structured surface. It relies on light directed at a suitable angle of incidence at the drop surface being reflected in a certain direction from only one surface point, or from a small surface section. The surface section is perpendicular to the bisector of the angle between the incident and reflected light directions and is therefore defined by the beam geometry. The source and/or receiver position is varied w.r.t. the drop to move the surface section along the boundary between the drop and material to determine the edge angle from the beam geometry. USE/ADVANTAGE - The method and arrangement enables simple, precise measurement of edge angle for evaluation of materials in the chemical industry or for research.
