Process is for the production of initial products with oriented short fibres for composite materials and uses electric or electromagnetic power fields. The short fibres are sepd. in a direct current field in a liquid medium with a low electroconductivity and a density that corresponds to that of the fibres. The sepn. takes place using ultrasound. The fibres are then oriented in the DC field and the electrolyte is subsequently removed mechanically while fibre orientation is maintained and the fibres are consolidated. The subsequent metallisation can take place through thermal spraying and hot rolling. The short fibres are coated or uncoated carbon fibres. ADVANTAGE - Process permits an environmentally sound use of short fibres in composite materials.ni
