A device is incorporated in the instrument for its electrical connection to a tone prodn. unit. The keys (43-46) on the upper and/or the under side of the body (12) of the instrument are fitted in an assembly (52) which is exchangeably held on the body, the assembly being a push-in unit which can be arrested in the body. The push-in unit has an electrical conductor plate on its inside. The keys are arranged in at least two parallel rows (41,42), the one row (41) contg. three valve keys (43-45), and a tritone key (46), whilst the other row (42) contains two tone hold keys (43,44), a free function key (45), and a programme change key (46). Alternatively, the upper side of the instrument can have at least two parallel rows of pref. at least six or eight keys, such rows contg. six note keys. The one row additionally has two function keys, and the other row has a two triller keys. ADVANTAGE - An electronic wind instrument with exchangeable key combinations, allowing it to be used as a trumpet, saxophone, clarinet or flute.
