Appts. to apply a sealing strand material to the edge zone of an insulating glass pane, together with embedded balls, has the outlet opening (8) of the ball feed channel (12) to one side of and close to the applicator jet (4). The opening is in front of the path of the sealing strand (3) by a gap which is at least the dia. of the balls (10), so that the balls (10) are ejected from channel opening (8) to pass over a free stretch to the side wall of the strand towards the edge (2) of the pane. A recess (9) is fitted within the tube opening (8) at its inner wall, below the upper ball feed tube (13). The applicator jet (4), and the ball feed operated by a pneumatic cylinder (14), are located on a program-controlled robot arm, activated through valves (15,16) which are operated by the control program. ADVANTAGE - The system forms a distance piece at the insulating glass pane, using a sealing strip and balls, where the presence of the balls does not lead to a thickening in the sealing strip or lead to weak points in it.
