Appts. positions a vertical inspection and/or repair mast (5) within a water-cooled nuclear reactor vessel. The lower end of the mast is equipped with centring pins (11, 11a) and a television camera (20) for observing insertion of the casting pins into the centring holes (8, 8a) of a support plate (4) within the reactor vessel, correct horizontal positioning of the mast being determnined by alignment of a mark on the mast below the camera with a mark on the support plate. A conical seating joint is provided between the centring pins (11, 11a) and the centring holes (8, 8a) and that the centring pins are spring mounted in holders (25) associated with the mast (5). ADVANTAGE - The design facilitates play-free fixing of the mast to the support plate.
