Sleeper screw insert - uses spiral metal band to line screw-holes in wooden sleepers to prevent damage during use

A metal spiral shaped screw insert (1) is used to line screwholes for fixing elements and consists of spiral band material with a U-shaped cross-section perpendicular to the band. One face of the band (3) is parallel to the spiral's longitudinal axis and the other face (4) projects outwards. The two faces (3, 4) form an obtuse angle (a) and are more or less the same length. The outward projecting face (4) is divided into slots (8) on the free side. A special tool is used for positioning the insert. USE - For securing rails to wooden sleepers to reduce damage to the sleepers by operating rail stock.
