A process is disclosed for the preparation of purified storage stable Lofepramine and/or its salts using Desipramine and 2-bromo-4'-chloroacetophenone in a two-phase system by crystallizing the crude product from methyl-tert-butylether. This product can then be converted by known procedures to its amine salts and can be used for the preparation of pharmaceutical compositions.
