Regeneration system for engine exhaust gas particle filter - detects fault in control sensors for regeneration cycle to initiate auxiliary regeneration

The regeneration system uses respective sets of sensors for initiating a regeneration cycle, for initiating and controlling a regeneration cycle and for controlling the regeneration cycle. The sensors are interrogated individually, or in combination for detecting a fault, with the regeneration cyucle controlled in dependence on the detected fault, to maintain the engine operation. Pref. a fault indication is supplied when one of the sensors exhibits a fault prior to, or during the regeneration cycle, to initiate auxiliary regeneration under control of the remaining sensors.
