In a new device for magnetically influencing the separation characteristics of minerals in water, a bar magnet housing (30) is included in a distribution arrangement made up of side outlet valves (10) and connection elements clamped together. The housing is penetrated by tension rods (17) and its faces (29, 29.1) are tightly clamped. It is provided with receiving chambers (36) which are located around its circumference between the tension rods and parallel to the axis (28) of the central passage (12) and which are open at one end face (19.1). Bar magnets (37) are placed in these chambers. Four chambers may be provided and be enclosed by inwardly curving sections of the housing. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used in changing the characteristics of minerals in water so as to reduce their tendency to form unwanted deposits. Provides a device which puts into practice the concept put forward in a previous patent (DE-OS 33 08 347), for the treatment of water in cold water supply systems. Requires no expensive special construction, and can be installed in existing water supply systems at little expense.
