The transfer unit for compressed tobacco blocks (12,13), moves the blocks from a container (1) at a processing unit (9). A swivel unit moves the container through an angle of 120-135 deg. in the feed direction and incorporates a retainer unit (14) in the form of a fork, preventing the blocks from sliding out prematurely of the container before its opening. During the transfer of the blocks from the container onto a transfer belt (6), the retainer is opened sync with the movement of the transfer belt. A pusher (7) aligns the sides of the blocks. ADVANTAGE - Block position control up to the processing station, without risk of deformation.
