A light source (1) output is directed by a reflector (2) and lens (3) onto an item to be copied, a positive film transparency (4). The transmitted image is focussed by a lens (5) onto a line of CCD elements (15). A partial mirror directs the image to three integral sensors (7-9) connected to a unit (10) coupled to a stage (13) that determines the lighting intensity. A keyboard (12) allows the user to select the specific conditions, e.g. artificial lighting, light or dark objects. A control stage (14) controls the CCD devices and a look-up table memory (16) allows corrections to be applied. ADVANTAGE - Corrects for under or over exposure as well as colour cast.
