Articles are removed by a handling robot from an injection moulding machine which has at least one displacement sensor to provide signals to control the opening and closing cycles of the mould. The active end of the handling robot is arranged to partially enter the mould while the mould is still opening. The mould is closed at the earliest possible moment after the robot has removed the injection moulded article. The injection moulding machine can have an ejector which is also controlled by at least one displacement sensor. USE/ADVANTAGE - Gives shorter cycle time for injection moulding.
