Method, with associated equipment, for closing off (in partic.) burning oil wells from which oil is escaping under pressure. From the surface, or from an excavation, a tunnel is driven that meets the oil delivery pipe, and the exposed cross-section of this is closed off. Several methods are claimed for closing off the pipe, including: closing the pipe cross-section by lateral pressure; and by fitting a sleeve into which a sliding valve or stopper can be fitted. USE/ADVANTAGE - Oil wells from which oil is escaping under pressure can, without danger to personnel, be closed off even if the oil is burning.
