A peritoneal dialysis catheter 10 comprises a tubular member having a distal portion 12 which is adapted to be disposed within the peritoneal cavity of a patient. A first connecting portion 14 joins the distal portion with an intermediate segment which is generally perpendicular to the cephalad-caudal axis. The first connecting portion carries a porous cuff 30 or other means for retaining the first connecting portion within the rectus abdominus muscle of the patient. A second connecting portion 18 joins the intermediate segment with a proximal portion 20 which is adapted to be disposed along the external abdominal wall of the patient. The second connecting portion also carries means 34 for retaining the second connecting portion generally within the subcutaneous tissue and passing through the cutaneous tissue. IMAGE
