R = H or 1-15C alk(en)yl opt. substd. by are CN or CF3 or by halogen(s) and opt. having -CH2- gp(s). replaced by -O-, -S-, 1,4-cyclobutylene, -CO-, -CO.O-, -O.CO- or -O.CO.O- so O atoms are not directly linked to each other; L = H or F; Y = F or Cl; m and n = 1 or 2; and Q = single bond, -CF2-, -O.CF2- or -O.CHF-, if L = F, when both Q = single bond and n = 1. USE/ADVANTAGE - Resin their optical and dielectric anisotropy at low temps.
