The re-fuelling device has a coarse positioning device transverse to the vehicle path, coupled to a processor (14) controlling the fuel delivery. The vehicle has a positioning element (8) identifying the position of the fuel tank connection (9), cooperating with a transmission and reception device (7) which is coupled to the processor (14). The processor uses the signals from the transmission and reception device (7) together with information provided by a data carrier (2) attached to the vehicle, to locate the fuel tank connection (9) and initiate re-fuelling. ADVANTAGE - Allows automatic re-fuelling of wide range of different vehicles.
