The visual display provides a stereoscopic viewing effect without the user having to wear special spectacles. The screen image is produced by three colour electron guns directing output through a slotted mask and onto photosensitive screen (5). The images projected are based upon that obtained with two cameras. The stereoscopic effect is produced by a lens (8) located in front of the screen that has a surface with parallel prism shaped strips (8a). The eyes of the observer (6, 7) focus on the points (9, 10) that depend upon the refraction caused by the lens. An alternative lens profile may be used or can be replaced by a masking bar pattern. A sensor may be provided for detecting the position of the observer so that a real-time video computer can generate corresp. right and left image perspectives having unnoticable delay. USE - For medical scanning e.g. of tumorous tissue.
