The junction of a branch pipe (2) to a main pipe (1) is reinforced by means of a collar (3) which is so shaped that the edge of its central hole coincides with the line of the welded joint between the branch pipe (2) and the main pipe (1). Gusset plates (4,5) are welded between the collar (3) and the main pipe so that the plane of each gusset is at 90 deg. to the axis of the main pipe and the gussets (4,5) are diametrically opposite to each other. Additional gussets (6,7) are positioned at 45 deg. to the axis of the main pipe (1) on the side of the branch pipe which makes an acute angle with the main pipe. USE - Pipework on board ships.
