Mfr. of a multi-layer compound coating by vacuum plasma spraying of individual thin layers onto a metallic substrate. The layers have varying thicknesses and penetrate each other at both interfaces. The spraying compounds used are metals, pref. hard alloys and hard materials. Some of the layers consist of metal-hard material composites contg. varying proportions of hard material. USE/ADVANTAGE - Wear resistant, heavy duty, multi-layer coatings for metallic materials. The materials composition and the arrangement of the layers in the compound coating endow a compound coating with graduated combined properties.
