A system for removing nitrates from drinking water has a cation exchanger for removing calcium ions, a membrane filter for removing sulphate ions, and an anion exchanger for removing nitrate ions. A regeneration pipe is added via which the regeneration solution used in the anion exchanger can be brought to the cation exchanger. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used in purificn. of drinking water. The removal of nitrates is achieved without the use of harmful additives and the quantity of waste water is reduced to a min. The addn. of sodium for regeneration of the ion exchange units is not necessary and the waste water can be easily disposed of.
