Starter bar with detachable head for horizontal continuous casting plant is for casting round non-ferrous strands pref. Cu (alloys) with reusable starter head attached to bar by split conical face coupling secured by screw and with threaded pin. The starter head pref. consisting of threaded pin (1), wear plate (2) of suitable material for the casting alloy, refractory block (3) and steel plate (9) with conical groove is attached to starter bar (7), usually of steel tube, by means of two coupling shells (5,10), which engage an identical conical groove (13) on starter bar (7). The coupling shells are secured by screw (12) and press against the conical faces of head and bar to provide a rigid connection. USE - Provides reusable starter head of simple, economic construction, easily attached and detached from starter bar, with rigid connection between head and bar.
