The current regulator (1) provides sinusoidal control of the current within a tolerance band which increases in width with the rise in the momentary current value. Pref. a constant min. width for the tolerance band is provided. Pref. each phase (R,S,T) of the current regulator (1) has 2 series transistors (3,4), each bridged by an anti-parallel, free-running diode (5,6), the currents in the individual phases being controlled independently. ADVANTAGE - Reduced switching losses.
