Trans-2-N,N-dimethylamino pinane-3-one oxime and its salts of formula (I) are new. In (I) W = NMe2 or N(+)HMe2X(-); X(-) = non- photytoxic anion. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) can be used as antifeedants to protect plants against sucking and biting insects. (I) are esp. effective antifeedants against larvae of the potato beetle and of the cereal and against tobacco owl caterpillars. (I) cause a change in the feeding habits of these insects and thus lead to their death. The hydrochloride of (I) has a systemic effect, and is effective against the insects even if the leaves are not treated. When potato leaves were treated with a 0.25% emulsion of (I; W + NMe2) and then infested with potato beetle larvae, 48 hrs later 15% of the leaf surface was damaged, 56% of the larvae had died and the change in the mass of larvae was +29% compared to a control gp. in which the values were 60% leaf damage, 0% dead larvae and +176% wt. change and a gp. to which Antifeeding (Ciba-Geigy) had been given in which the values were 15% leaf damage, 0% dead larvae and 3% mass change.
