Reusing scrap preservative treated wood for sound-proof wall - by disintegrating into particles, mixing these with hard setting binder and moulding, extruding or otherwise processing into prod. required
In a forming process, an extruding sections in particular, pieces of wood are disintegrated, the particles produced are mixed with binder, and the mixed material is formed and cured. The original pieces of wood are used treated with preservative beforehand. The type of impregnation which was used for the original wood is not critical, even contaminated wood material can be used. The pieces are disintegrated in any desired manner but larger particles have higher mechanical strength. It is advantageous to reduce the pieces so that more than 50% of the wood in the finished prod. is particles of length greater than 40mm. Wood chips are pref. 0.5-6mm wide and 0.5mm thick. Suitable binders must set hard, either by curing or e.g. by drying or changing phase. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used for soundproof walls etc. The finished mouldings/extrusions are protected from decay or fungal attack etc. The process is partic. suitable for reusing preservative-treated wood scrap and notably scrap impregnated wood whose disposal is expensive.
