To wind a cross wound bobbin with false-twisted yarn, with a given yarn length, the winding time is calculated and the time is divided into a number of time sections of a given length. The bobbin surface speed is calculated at the start and at the end of the winding time. The time section lengths and the bobbin surface speed at the start and end of each time section are stored in a computer, in order to give basic values for the rates of change in the surface speed in each time section, to control the bobbin surface speed during winding, according to the calculated values for each time section. ADVANTAGE - The method gives a bobbin winding control independently of the yarn supply and false twisting systems, to give wound yarn of a constant density throughout the bobbin dia.
