Radial tyres (I) reinforced with steel cords with a 1 x 2 cord structure are claimed: the novelty is that the cords are embedded in a rubber coating material contg. 1.0-5 pts. wt. partial condensates (II) of hexamethylolmelamine pentamethyl ether, 0.5-5 pts. wt. cresol resin (III), 4-7 pts. wt. sulphur and 0.1-0.8 pts. wt. Co (as the Co salt (IV) of an organic acid) (w.r.t. 100 pts. wt. base rubber). The rubber is natural rubber or polybutadiene, butyl, A/B and/or S/B rubber, (II) has the above formula, (III) is a m-cresol resin and (IV) is Co naphthenate, stearate, or octoate, or a complex Co borate/organic acid sa the steel cords consist of metal filaments contg. 0.8-0.92% carbon. ADVANTAGE - The invention provides radial tyres in which sepn. of the steel cords from the rubber coating is inhibited, together with corrosion of the steel itself, thus prolonging the service life of the tyre.
