A yarn tension regulator includes means for identifying the presence of yarn to indicate a broken or misdirected thread. Contained within a housing is a bow shaped flat spring pressing against a swivel lever with a forked end, to support the yarn. A casing (6) has two sides with cross rivets (33) and supported on a cross rail (16) to which it is attached by the screw (12). A flat plastic spring (20) is bowed between 90 and 180 deg., with one end held in the notch on the swivel (24) the other end in the adjuster (21). A gap (10) beneath the case allows a screwdriver to regulate the position of the adjuster (21) and spring. The adjuster swivels on the pin (22) held in the side plates.
